Ok I see regarding salary. I also agree, in theory, regarding university or college. However, rampant credential inflation has made it the barrier to entry of almost all corporate professions. The average salary takes into account those professions, so really your metric should be average salary of those without a degree.
Self employed Electrician Plumber Contractor or Welder. Takes awhile to become self employed in these careers but lots of freedoms, cash and self determination comes along with it.
How does university factor into this - 40k while at uni is unrealistic for most.. or is that supposed to be starting salary post uni?

Average salary overall is fine. Most degrees are worth very little money to the people who hold them.
