Technological artiface and material abundance have brought about the third millennium's Technarcistic Man and his maladies. Technarcistic Man has ample means to anesthetize himself to reality, which effects an unawareness or certain blindness in regards to reality, natural law, and thus even gender. The pathogenesis of this unawareness or blindness is a person becoming myopically fixated on himself and his subjective good. This subjective fixation inevitably leads to an addiction to pleasure, entertainment, and escapisms.
Technarcistic blindness comes from an egoism where a person no longer even recognizes, or at least fully appreciates, that his mortality and contingency is the most redical principle of his creaturely human existence. Mortality is the sobering fact of sickness and death. But contingency is even more sobering, vastly more humiliating, than even mortality. For contingency is the fact of having no control over the soul's immortal existence: neither having anything to do with coming into spiritual existence nor going out of spiritual existence (thus even suicide is no escape from existence). When a person's mortality and contingency is realized he knows reality is not keyed to his desires; that the universe does not center around himself; that God is God and he is not.
