How many books do you read at a time ? What books other than the Bible are your favorites ? Interested to know. Thanks for the great content, Will. God bless you and your family

How many books I read at one time depends on what I'm working on and the kind of books. It can easily be 20+. Apart from the Bible, I like books by Aquinas and Aristotle. I don't read very widely in fiction. I prefer knowing a few classics well.

What advice would you give to a young man about long-distance relationships, in general? How likely are they to succeed? She is a good Christian woman. Trustworthy and reliable, caring and generous, but there is a real possibility that we may not be able to live close together for 1-2 years. We have known each other already for 3 months in person, values align exceptionally well.

They can work. But you should get engaged within 12 months of dating. And you should make the effort to see her regularly.

From experience , I’d be very wary of long distance relationships / green card marriages.

I understand. It's not a green card type situation though. She's Singaporean with legal residency in Canada, and I'm British

Hello Will,

When combatting habitual sin, would it be more effective &/or prudent to reduce multiple simultaneously or one at a time?

I have some bad habits left over from Uni and they are dying hard, by the grace of God, I've stopped using cannabis but I still struggle with Nicotine and Alcohol consumption.

Glad to hear Substack content is forthcoming.

God bless you and your family.

All sins are rooted in the capital (seven deadly) sins. Attack the root.

If you're struggling with nicotine and alcohol, work on denying yourself little things to strengthen your willpower.

And pray straightaway when you're tempted. Prayer, fasting and confession are our strongest weapons

When it comes to providing as a husband, if I make $110k and my wife makes $90k do I need to make $200k to cover our expenses so she can quit working?

Expand full comment

No. After childcare, travel and clothes/food for work, about 80% of a working wife's salary doesn't benefit the family at all. It's a trap.

I have a Christian female friend who’s in her 70s , her husband left her for another woman last year. Their children are grown. He stopped providing for his wife. He refuses to repent. Should she keep praying and waiting for him to return?

She should talk to a Catholic priest. Maybe her marriage wasn't valid and can be annulled.

'We and Our Children: How to Make a Catholic Home' by Mary Newland is highly regarded.

Why does disordered sexual desire darken the intellect?

Expand full comment

All sin darkens the intellect because it's irrational action. And lust darkens it most of all because it concerns instincts we share with non-rational animals. The more a man is enslaved to his sex drive, the more brutish he becomes.

Hi Will! Hope you had a wonderful vacation!

Why is a vasectomy wrong for Christians --what if the wife does not want or cannot physically bare children anymore (for health reasons)?

Do you believe in buying life insurance?

Expand full comment

Vasectomy is mutilation and contrary to natural law. If a wife doesn't want general, she's going against the main natural purpose of marriage. If there are serious/grave circumstances, natural family planning is justified. But that's extremely rare.

Hello Will.

Hope you are well.

Do you recommend a prayer to recite after I catch myself lusting?

God bless you and your family.

There are various requests to ask Mary to pray to God to help you with this. One is below. But the main thing you need is confession.

Mary, Mother most pure, and Joseph, chaste guardian of the Virgin, to you I entrust the purity of my soul and body. I beg you to plead with God for me that I may never for the remainder of my life soil my soul by any sin of impurity.

Thank you.

The priest in the church I go to in Poland said it will take about 2 years to become a catholic. Is there any way to do it faster?

Expand full comment

Hey Damon, I too am in the process of converting, just learned from my priest last night that technically I am not a Christian (yet) but a catechumen, it can be frustrating but I am comforted by the fact that the Church has dealt with many a convert who at one time were unbaptized heathen and there is a time honored and sanctified route to becoming a Catholic. I also take solace in the fact that one day my children will be born into the Faith rather than having to come to it alone as an adult like you are I. Hang in there, there are many in the same boat. I am interested to hear Will's response too.

Thank you for the kind response.

If I may ask, are you converting from another faith? Or were you an atheist?

Good luck on your journey! God bless you!

Expand full comment

I was raised as an atheist became an agnostic for most of my adult life, when I began reading philosophy In Uni I quickly became a deist and then afterwards I read my way into the Faith thanks to Chesterton, Lewis, & Belloc. It was also a great help to find the YouTube channels of folks like Will Knowland and the other CMASC guys.

Are you converting from another faith or from atheism?

Same to you & God Bless you.

Expand full comment

Raised an atheist my whole life.

Started discussing with my friend who recently converted to Orthodox Christianity, and my classmate who is a Catholic. They convinced me through arguments and led me to C.S. Lewis and Chesterton.

My OC friend also introduced me to C-MASC.
