Practical tips for balancing training and family
It’s important for fathers to be strong for the families. One reason is that the literature suggests that people get sick and die less when they are stronger. But another reason is that physical training brings all kinds of mental and spiritual benefits. It’s a weapon in the war on degeneracy.
As St. Paul writes, ‘I chastise my body, and bring it into subjection’ (Corinthians 1:27). Masculinity is about imposing order. Thus Pope Pius XII wrote that,
'Sport is the school of Loyalty, of courage, of fortitude, of resolution and – forming a sound foundation for the supernatural virtues – preparing man to carry without weakness the weight of the greatest responsibilities.'
Effeminacy is the vice of letting either pleasure or pain deter you when doing what's right gets tough. It's opposed to fortitude. Physical effeminacy breeds spiritual effeminacy. Physical fortitude breeds spiritual fortitude.
