7 Lessons about Fatherhood from Lifting
Knowing these uncomfortable truths can make or break any man
1. Consistency is king.
Show up. No matter what your mood is. Make it look easy even when it’s not. This isn’t just about not looking weak in front of others.
It’s also about not looking weak in front of yourself.
2. Slow and steady.
80% effort done daily adds up to a lot over time. More than 100% effort done 20% of the time. If you burnout, things will backslide during the break.
No heroics.
3. Don’t major in the minors.
Get the big things right
- Bedtime stories
- Family mealtimes
- Manners
Don’t worry about the icing before you’ve baked the cake.
4. “Don’t just survive it. Thrive in it.”
I heard this from another lifter. Stop wishing the work away. This is what forges you.
Cherish it.
5. The numbers don’t lie.
How many workouts did you get in? How many bedtime stories did you read? How many times did you help with homework?
6. Time and patience.
These are the greatest warriors. Don’t fall for fads. Focus on the foundation.
Lay the stones square and solid.
7. There is no save button.
You don’t do this to fix problems. You do it because without it there always WILL BE problems. Adjust your attitude accordingly.
Stop looking for a finish line.
